May in the Garden
The garden is waking up fast now. Tiny seedlings are filling in, and the season is starting to feel real.
Peonies are growing strong, and early blooms are beginning to take shape. The greenhouse is full and green!
A lot of these plants will be heading out into the garden beds Mother’s Day weekend, my family’s version of celebrating this year. I am so lucky to have such a great support system.
There was also a special little moment last month, being included in a Bloom & Root roundup sharing favorite flowers for bouquets. Of course, I chose dahlias. They’re the ones that made me fall in love with growing for arrangements.
Bloom & Root is such a beautiful resource for anyone learning to grow and design with flowers, especially if you’re just getting started.
For now, it’s a lot of tending, watching, and waiting… trusting the season to unfold as it should.

Early in the season, ranunculus and anemones begin to bloom, followed closely by peonies as the garden wakes up for summer.

August marks the beginning of dahlia season, as the first blooms are harvested and gathered into stems and small bouquets. This is when the flower stand really begins to fill up for the season.

The peonies bloom for a fleeting window in early June, usually lasting about two weeks. Their blooms are a favorite and available only while they last.

As the weeks pass, more varieties begin to bloom and the garden fills with color. This is when the season really takes off.

By July, zinnias, cosmos, lavender and other summer blooms begin filling the garden with color.
